Julius Rosenwald’s life was forever changed when he met Booker T. Washington, the well known black educator. Washington introduced the president of Sears and Roebuck and Company to the deplorable conditions of African American schools in the South. In just twenty years, Rosenwald helped to financially support the building of more than 5,300 well- designed and better equipped Southern schools.

Dr. Alan Nussbaum is a Charleston native who spent many years in the KKBE Religious School and was active in Temple Youth Group. His wife Neda also grew up in Charleston, and they were married while in college in Baltimore. They lived for four years in Boston while he was in Medical School, and then moved to Durham, NC for the three years of his Internship & Residency. In 1980, they returned to Charleston where Dr. Nussbaum completed his subspecialty training in Rheumatology. He has been in Private Practice as a Rheumatologist for more than forty years. Dr. Nussbaum and Neda have five children and nine grandchildren. Their oldest child and only daughter is a Rabbi in Seattle.

This program is in-person only.
