Film Festival - Jewish and Israeli Films

Charleston Jewish Federation is proud to once again be a sponsor of the 6th Annual Terrace Charleston Film Festival: March 12 - 15!

CJF's sponsorship makes it possible for  the Charleston community to view newly released,  acclaimed movies of Jewish interest!

The year, the Jewish and Israeli films are:

Deli Man

More than 160 years of tradition served up by the Jewish Deli Owners, operators and fanatics who are keeping hot pastrami hot--just don't tell your cardiologist!  Thursday, March 12 @ 7 pm .  After the film, Butcher and Bee's top chefs will divulge the inspiration behind the best pastrami.

 

Gett, The Trial of Viviane Amsalem

An Israeli film about an Orthodox woman struggling to earn the right to divorce her husband. Academy Award nominated for best foreign film.

Friday, March 13  @ 12:30 pm. In joint sponsorship with Charleston Jewish Federation, Hadassah would like to invite you to join them next door at How Art Thou Cafe for a lively informal discussion after the film.

March 15 @ 2:30 pm A discussion led by College of Charleston Professorand Israeli film expert Dr. Oren Segal will follow the film. Dr. Segal's research focuses on Hebrew literature and Israeli film and art in their historical and sociological contexts.

 

The Outrageous Sophie Tucker

Before Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Bette Midler, Marilyn Monroe, and Mae West, Sophie Tucker was the first woman to infatuate her audiences with a bold, bawdy and brassy style unlike any other.   Sunday, March 15 @ 4:30 pm . After the film, there will be a Q & A session via Skype with the directors.
