In the spirit of the ideal of tzedakah – righteousness, charity and social justice – JewishCharleston.org is designed to entertain, educate, inspire and remind you that you are a part of a vibrant, bold and sometimes daring community here in Charleston.

Consider this ... Charleston's Jewish community is:

  • one of the oldest Jewish communities in North America.
  • religiously diverse – from Reform to Orthodox and anything in between.
  • geographically dispersed – we're everywhere in the Charleston area, from Isle of Palms to Seabrook Island, from West Ashley to Mt. Pleasant.
  • a diverse population – everything from young professionals to retirees, singles to empty nesters.

And in our community, in spite of our diversity, we are bound together by a shared history and traditions. One that pursues social justice and human rights and lives by rich traditions of advocacy, education and taking responsibility for one another.

This website is all about you taking part. It contains information on everything from holidays and literature to world events and travel. It's a resource for community events and volunteer opportunities to kosher restaurants and Jewish movies.

In essence, JewishCharleston.org pertains to anything and everything Jewish in Charleston... and it's all at your fingertips, with the click of a mouse.

Charleston Jewish Federation is one of the largest non-profit, philanthropic organizations in Charleston.  We help support many social and humanitarian agencies and programs in Charleston, Israel and in 63 countries around the world. With over 5,000 Jews in the Greater Charleston area, we are the central funding and organizing arm of Charleston's growing Jewish community and we provide a voice for the entire community. We, along with 189 Jewish Federations, 400 independent communities and 700,000 people across North America, work to mobilize ideas as well as human and financial resources to pursue justice and repair the world.
