The Charleston Jewish Social Services was organized in 1951 to coordinate the programs of the local Jewish charitable organizations and committee.

Our mission is to fulfill the community’s obligation to support and assist its members in the Jewish tradition of helping people to help themselves.

Our goal is to preserve and protect the basic human needs of all members of the greater Charleston Jewish community and the community at large; and to promote, support and strengthen their positive social functioning.

We are a committee of the Charleston Jewish Federation. Harold Fox is the Social Service Chair person. Professional staff includes the Executive Director of the Charleston Jewish Federation and Social Services Director, Judi Corsaro, an experience facilitator, and a licensed counselor, Ijo Toporek.

Information and Referrals

To help clients deal with life’s problems. With a phone call or visit, we connect individuals with agencies and resources that are available in the Jewish community and the greater Charleston community.

Financial Assistance

We have funds for financial assistance and grocery certificates available as needed.

Counseling

The stress of today’s world can create burdens and pressures. Our experienced professional staff provides assessments, referrals mediation and counseling for problems such as couple and family conflicts, single parent dilemmas, struggles with dependency, stress, anger control, anxiety, depression, loss of loved ones and other crises, care giving for elderly relatives, career counseling and adjustment to major life changes.

Senior Transportation

In cooperation with the Jewish Community Center, we offer inexpensive and reliable transportation to medical appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores and to programs sponsored by the JCC senior program.
