About The Charleston Jewish Federation

The mission of the Charleston Jewish Federation of Charleston, South Carolina is to build, strengthen, and preserve Jewish identity and the needs of the community through partnerships that enable us to serve the needs of our local Jewish community, Israel, and worldwide.

We will accomplish this mission by:

  • Convening the community and faciliting collaboration
  • Advocating for and allocating human resources
  • Supporting Jewish identity and educational programs for the entire comunity
  • Broadening opportunities for philanthropy through financial resource development and coordination of funding sources
  • Developing leaders for the Jewish community of Charleston

Young Adults Division

YAD offers young Jewish singles, couples and new area residents a broad range of social and educational opportunities. Charleston's growth is attracting young Jews from around the country, as well as natives returning to the area. More

 Israel Educational Fund

A program designed to encourage children to learn about themselves, Judaism, and Israel. Sponsored by the Charleston Jewish Federation, Brith Shalom Beth Israel Congregation, Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim, and Synagogue Emanu-el. More

The REMEMBER Program

The Holocaust was the single most systematic and extensive government engineered genocide in history. Nazis murdered approximately 6 million Jews, including more than one million children. It is these horrific deaths that compel us to study the Holocaust so that we can prevent future tragedies. As Elie Weisel stated: “For the dead and the living we must bear witness.”  The REMEMBER Program works closely with The Holocaust Museum of Houston and The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. JCRC

In support of the mission of the Charleston Jewish Federation to build, strengthen and preserve Jewish identity and community, the Community Relations Committee will: Study and monitor current and potential dangers and opportunities for the Charleston Jewish community, Take both public and private actions both short and long term to educate and to reach out to the greater Charleston community, and Coordinate and prioritize local Jewish contacts with significant elements of the greater Charleston community. More

PJ Library

The PJ Library program supports families in their Jewish journey by sending Jewish-content books and music on a monthly basis to children from age six months to five, six, seven or eight years depending on the community. Created by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, The PJ Library is a national program implemented by local communities. More

B'nai Tzedek

The B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy Program is redefining what it means to be a Jewish philanthropist by showing young people that they have the power to make change in the world through a personal and engaged relationship to lifelong giving. The program is a tool for teens to give tzedakah, deepen their commitment to social action and be a part of a program that models youth leadership. More
